Our Story

Reserve Run Family Farm is a farm with deep roots and long vision. We utilize regenerative farming methods including cover crops and rotational grazing with our livestock. Our animals are handled utilizing low-stress handling methods and are treated with care and respect.

Reserve Run Family Farm is owned and operated by Drew and Ashley Johnson along with our daughters, Izzy and Lucy. With help from our family, we focus our efforts on providing comfortable lifestyles for our animals while keeping up with the heavy demands of farm life.

The products we sell are all-natural beef, heritage breed pork and quality hay and straw. We are grass and forage dominant with all of our animals as much as possible.  We feed the highest quality minerals and sea salt to our animals to keep them healthy from the start.  We never feed any growth promoting antibiotics, growth hormones or animal byproducts.
Our beef is pasture raised for about half of their life.  The calves nurse from their mothers and eat fresh grass for about 6 months.  When the calves are weaned from their mothers, they are introduced to a new diet that consists of a full-time hay buffet, corn silage (chopped and fermented corn plant- think kimchi or sauerkraut), and about 10% grain.  Everything is grown on our farm with the exception of some vitamin/mineral supplements.  The majority of our cow herd is Angus and Simmental/Angus cross.  Our bulls are 100% Angus and are carefully selected for marbling and carcass traits that lead to high quality, consistent cuts of meat that regularly meet the USDA criteria for high-end Choice and Prime grading.

Our heritage pork is always a pleasure.  Typically we raise Berkshire and Berkshire-cross heritage breed pigs.  It is something you just won't find in a grocery store today.  Once reserved only for British Royalty, Berkshires are known for producing a red meat that has intramuscular marbling, similar to beef.    Raised in deep bedding with fresh air and plenty of room to run, our pork will create a great memory for you and your guests.
We focus the production of our crops and animal's feed based on regenerative methods.  We try to always have something growing, no matter the time of the year.  We focus on soil life to keep our crops healthy and nourished while minimizing the amount of synthetic inputs we use.  We use No-Till planting methods so we don't disturb our soil community, and to reduce erosion.  By doing this, we capture more carbon from the air to build our topsoil and to feed our soil life.
